Blueberries on Mars
On the possibly origins of blueberries (iron granules) in the Martian soil.
In my investigations of the Martian soil as part of the Planetary Science group at Copenhagen University, I came across the Martian blueberries.
The encounter with these blueberries was intriguing, thus I decided to make an effort in understanding their origin. I examed the mössbauer spectra of these blueberries from Opportunity (a way to reduce the background noise of the surface dust is described).
The article below describes my comparable analysis of some concretions from Utah, which forms when iron rich water flows through porous rocks.
